Discover the evolving history of Terry County at the Terry County Heritage Museum. With artifacts from Native American culture to our ranching and farming heritage, explore and learn what made Terry County what it is today.
OUR HERITAGE
In March 1902, Alfred Marion “Dick” Brownfield, his wife Seleta Jane, and baby Lois arrived in their covered wagon in what is now Terry County. They built their house in 1928.
Mr. Brownfield was involved in many other activities to further the development of the Terry County area, mainly known for being a rancher, but he was also the first Brownfield State Bank cashier and an automobile dealer. He wanted to help settle the area, selling a section of his ranch to two businessmen for the purpose of building a town.
He died August 24, 1967, leaving his house to the City of Brownfield. This house is now the Terry County Heritage Museum.
